The plot is the one of the most important elements of the story; however, the characters decide what happens, when it happens, and how it happens. This occurs when the external or internal plot plays a major role. In The Lady or the Tiger?, the external conflict causes the princess to have tremendous internal conflict. Because the plot line ends at the climax, many readers are not satisfied with the author's falling action and resolution. Think about the princess' character (background, upbringing, feelings, thoughts, actions) to determine what you think happens next.
Write a new ending (falling action and resolution) for the story in which you reveal the princess’s decision (falling action) and show the effects of the decision on all the characters (resolution). Use your short story elements graphic organizer as a guide just like an author would. In other words, you must be true to Stockton's story.
Think about questions like...
1. What happens to the young man?
2. How does she feel about it?
3. What does the king do next?
4. What does the princess do next?
he walked to the door on the right took a deep breath open the door and was shocked to see the tiger walk out he started to run but the tiger was faster than he was it tore him apart the princess was happy she decided if she couldn't have him neither could any one else but she also knew that he would always be with her in her heart tell they day she died and she hoped that then they could be together again.
ReplyDeleteThe man goes to the right door and opens it. Soon there after the tiger, comes running out only to do what is most expected by the tiger but to claw and rip the man to pieces. Killing him and saving the princess from heart ache of the other lady standing behind the left door. But behind that left door much like the princess stands a weeping young lady. Pained by the sadness of losing the one she had so hoped for. The princess leaves the arena in tears as she knows she is responsible for the death of her loved one and hopes that he will not think poorly of her. She tries to move on, but the constant sadness of leading her youth lover to his immediate death pains her to death and she finally dies alone of loneliness and sadness, she was an old lady at the time, never married. The father or king, morns her death and soon after dies of old age. The barbaric country was lead by a new family of royalty. The end
ReplyDeleteHe went to the door on the right, and opened it. A hungry growl rose from the beast's throat; everyone in attendance knew the fate of the young man. The princess stood calmly next to her father, who sat with a satisfied grin upon his face. As the blood flew and the screams for mercy rose, she felt nothing. The princess was callous now, and she knew if she could not have the Youth then no one could. The king felt not an once of remorse; he was simply enjoying the entertainment the tiger, with sharp claws and piercing teeth, and the young man, limp and lifeless now, were providing. When the show was over and everyone had returned home, the youth's body, every piece of it, was cleared from the arena, for tomorrow another trial was to take place.
ReplyDeleteHe goes to the right door and opens it. The tiger comes out the door, but the youth isn't surprised. He thought she would said him to this door, and the last thing the boy sees are the orange and black stripes of the tiger. The princess does not cry. She just sits there looking at the ground.
ReplyDeleteIn the next few days the princess is very depressed. She realizes she just killed the boy she loved by telling him to go to the tiger. The king does not know she knew what was behind the doors. He is the happiest he's ever been because the boy is dead. The king goes on with his usual life and doesn't think about the boy and his daughter together again. Of course the princess does, and her pain will never go away. She decides the best solution would be to kill herself, because she can not live without the boy and she can not bear the pain of knowing what she did. And that is what she did.
Slowly the young man opens the door and boom out comes the angry tiger. He tries to run away but isn't fast enough and the tiger has a good grip on him. The tiger soon enough kills him. While all of this is happening the princess is just observing and not saying anything; just staying silent. She wanted the young man to be hers; but if he couldn't be hers then he couldn't be anyones. She was a very jealous girl; taking after her father, the King. The King was pleased and yet relieved that he had chosen the door to the tiger because it meant he was gone out of the princesses life for good now. After the trial, the King goes on with his life, but the princess will always have guilt built up in her, even though at the moment she is satisfied with this decision.
ReplyDeleteThe man opened the door and out came a beautiful but viscous animal, the tiger. In the small amount of time he had he thought about how he had been betrayed by his lover, he trusted her with his life. Then he was ripped apart by the tiger and he was no more. The people in the crowd were shocked and the mourners started mourning. The Princess sat still by her father, who was trying to seem upset, but looked rather happy. She started to wonder if that was the right choice or if she had made a terrible mistake. She started to wonder if she was selfish to want the man to herself only.
ReplyDeleteShe went back to the palace and kept on seeing in her mind his body being ripped to shreds by the claws of the tiger. She started crying and didn't want to be seen by anyone. The king, though, was very happy with the outcome, he had his daughter to himself and all was well. The king seemed oblivious to his daughters misery. In a few years her father arranged a marriage for her with a rich prince from another land. She never forget her first lover though and never forgave herself or her father.
The Youth opens the door, to see a beautiful woman staring right back at him, he lets a sigh of relief as he lets out tears of sadness. He knows that he lives, but he knows he doesnt want to with out the princess, so the youth shuts the door with the woman, and dashes to the other, he rips open seeing the meanest looking tiger he's ever seen, the crowd all stands up, including the king and the princess, as the tiger rips apart the youth, the princess cries. The king stands and cheers as all the crowd is appalled by the youths choice of death, over a sad life. The crowd shuffles out, the king still smiles as the princess gets her black dress ready for the funeral.
ReplyDeleteI think that the story would end up that the man would choose the tiger. The way that the describe how much they love each other I don't think he could live without her. I think he would rather be dead then have to be married to any other girl. Even though they both no that he father wouldn't let them be together so I think that he chose the tiger so he wouldn't have to worry about living without her. But he has to put her through not being able to see him.
ReplyDeleteThe young man opens the doors trusting the princess for safety. He looks into the darkness and awaits for the lady to come walking out. The princess puts her hands in her face. She can't handle the emotion. Her heart is torn to shreds but she thinks to herself that she knows what the outcome is.
ReplyDeleteThe young man awaits patiently. The crowd of people in the arena grow silent and are on the edge of their seat's with wide eyes.
You hear a grumble and a flash of orange and black rushes out of he door in a quick motion. Red splatters everywhere. Some of the people in the crowd close their eyes and cover their ears of the horrific screams. The king smirks because he knows he will never have to deal with the young man again. He has all the power. He looks over to the princess but she was gone.
The princess runs with tears in her eyes wondering if it was the right choice to kill her only love. She comes out of the arena and into a forest. She thinks to herself that 'Yes, this was the only way. If I couldn't have him, then no one else would.' Even from the outside of the arena she could still hear the screams and cries of the people.
The Lady or the Tiger ending
ReplyDeleteWithout the slightest hesitation, he went to the door on the right, and opened it. There was no mistaking the shriek that tore from the princess's throat, and the boy looked up at her in anguish a second before a tiger stepped into the arena. She could not look away, for such a matter was too interesting to her. She watched, wide eyed and sobbing as her love fought for his life against a mean and hungry tiger. The crowd was screaming in anticipation, how delightfully dramatic this was! No one had known what the reaction from the princess would be, and were slightly appalled now to watch her grim features as she took in the mauling of such a handsome man. The kings bellowing laughter sounded around the walls of the arena. He had no other satisfaction more then watching a villain come to justice. And a fair justice it was! The boy was no longer screaming, he realized and that meant that the show was over. He rose from his seat and eyed his daughter, gauging her reaction. He had a thrill of pleasure to see that the girl had no tears left to shed for the boy, seeing as she had unmistakeably killed him herself.
He ended up choosing the right door with the angry tiger. The tiger attacks him right away. The princess started crying knowing she will never see him again. The princess knew though that is was probably a good thing he picked that door even though she knew it would happen sooner or later that she would not be able to be with him forever because if he would have chosen the maiden she wouldn't have been able to be with him anyways. The king doesn't really have any feelings that the young chose the door with the tiger because he was taking the youth away from his daughter. Once he picked the door with tiger the king was happy he wouldn't have to worry about the princess and the youth being together. The princess goes down to the morner to see the youth one last time. The princess is living her life the same way she had been ocassionally thinking about what it would have been like if the youth was still with her.
ReplyDeleteI think that the guy got the girl but didn't want to marry her so he ran to the other door and let the tiger out because he didn't want to be with that girl for the rest of his life because he already had a wife and kids. Once the crowd saw that he started running to the other door they all gasped and all stood up at once. Then once he realized he was gonna die he was going to close the door but the tiger jumped against the door so it busted open. The guy stood up as the tiger walked in a circle around him and saw the anger in the tiger's eye and then he realized he was definitely going to die. Before he even thought about it he took off running the opposite way of the tiger, but the tiger was just to fast for him. The tiger jumped on the back and ripped his body apart.

ReplyDeletethe young man is standing there staring at the doors. he ends up opening the door of the lady. he stands there in shock. the king is rather happy he didnt care if it was the lady or the tiger hes just happy that the young man is not with the princess. the princess however knows that the young man still loves her and now has to go be with the other women. the lady is hugging him and hes just in shock like did this really happen?? the princess just has to walk away and not watch the man with a new wife. the king jumped in joy as the princess walked away in tears.
